About Me
Dr. Joanna Stith has been working with children and adults with hearing loss for over
25 years. She is a speech-language pathologist and certified Listening and Spoken
Language therapist. Dr. Stith provides therapy to children and their families as well
as adults with hearing loss throughout Colorado and Wyoming. She has a private
practice, Listening for Life, and approximately 60% of Dr. Stith’s visits are provided
through tele-intervention services (via the internet) to families living at greater
distances and in Wyoming.
Dr Stith is a Listen Referral Therapist and collaborates with the Listen Foundation.
She also provides early intervention services to families and babies who are identified
with hearing loss. Dr. Stith teaches graduate classes as an adjunct professor with the University of Colorado-Boulder and is a facilitator of Love and Logic courses.
Dr. Stith serves as a mentor for individuals seeking to become certified in Listening and Spoken Language. She provides lectures at various conferences, in-services, and collaboration meetings for teams in the public schools to maximize the development of auditory skills and spoken language.
A little bit of history:
Dr. Stith received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, her master’s degree from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and her Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. In the beginning of her career, Dr. Stith was a strong advocate for the use of sign language with all children with hearing loss. She worked as a waterfront director for a deaf camp for multiple years and taught sign language courses in the community.
While working toward completing her Ph.D., Joanna learned of the principles and theories of Listening and Spoken Language Therapy/Auditory Verbal Therapy and what it offered to children with hearing loss. She completed the necessary coursework and 900 clock hours over four years and became a certified auditory-verbal therapist (Listening and Spoken Language Therapist). She has served on Cochlear Implant teams and taught graduate courses in Speech-Language Pathology for the Medical University of South Carolina, the University of South Carolina, and the University of Colorado-Boulder. After completing her Ph.D., Dr. Stith built a private practice that is now based in Erie, Colorado.
Dr. Stith lives with her husband and three children in Broomfield, Colorado. She enjoys many outdoor activities Colorado has to offer as well as reading and visits to the mountains and beach whenever possible!
